Rules of the Road
All volunteers will fill out an application, pass a background check, & have an interview with the minister. All volunteers must carry a current permit or license for the position they are applying to if applicable. No monetary compensation is offered or implied for our volunteers. In case of emergency, volunteers are expected and must notify the minister if unable to fulfill any commitment either temporarily or if they decide to permanently resign the position they are volunteering for. Medical coverage is not provided in case of accident or disease-associated to volunteering. Our volunteers gain valuable work experience that can be added to their work search resumes! Volunteering may also help you network with others who may influence future successes! It is assumed the volunteer has read these guidelines and have agreed to the rules governing volunteering through Soul Waves - The House of Simran.
Q & A
Common questions and answers...
Q: If I volunteer, how long will I be expected to work?
A. Volunteers usually provide assistance based on the need and length of time needed and may include a few hours, days, weeks or even months. Time served as a volunteer will depend on the needs of the project and/or according to facility or event need. Volunteers should be flexible.
Q. Does Soul Waves provide transportation to and from the worksite and/or childcare?
A. In most cases, volunteers will provide their own reliable transportation and/or arrangements for childcare if needed & is not the responsibility of Soul Waves.
Q. Do I need training before I volunteer?
A. Most positions will require at least an orientation, but very rarely formal training. If formal training is needed, Soul Waves will make arrangements for that. No volunteer is sent out on "blind" assignments!
Q. What if I am sick or unable to make my regularly scheduled work time?
A. As with any position, you will call us AND your worksite supervisor, to report an absence. We need to know your situation to allow us to find a replacement. The sooner we know not to expect you, the sooner we will be able to cover.
